Mentoring
Ministry
Mentoring happens when a seasoned traveler walks alongside someone
else to encourage, share experiences, and give God’s perspective as they share
the journey of their walk with Christ.
We desire to see every woman at Heritage involved in
Christ-centered, caring relationships. In these relationships, we can celebrate
milestones, face challenges and grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus -
together. In our fast-paced, schedule-driven lives, this doesn’t happen unless
we are purposeful about it. Mentoring could provide you an opportunity to
develop one such relationship. Mentoring can take many forms. It could be a new
mother learning from an experienced mom how to build a Christ-centered family
and home (yes, including how to get the occasional shower in during those first
few months). Mentoring could also look like one woman helping another face the
challenges of major life changes. Sometimes a woman needs to learn to have an
impact for Christ at her workplace. Sometimes she needs perspective in
navigating her childrens’ teen years. Whatever your life circumstances, God has
brought others through similar situations and the example of His faithfulness to
them will encourage, strengthen and sustain you. So take a step of faith. Make
the investment.
Isn’t it just
friendship?
Yes and no. Mentoring is a step beyond friendship. It involves a
purposeful commitment to growth and is developed for the purpose of learning and
change. Perhaps you have a friend in your life that you’d like to act as a
mentor to you. Come to the coffees together.
The opportunity
Mentors - These are women who have walked with Christ for awhile
and have turned to Him in the challenges of life. Mentors agree to meet with
their mentee twice a month to share life and encourage her in her growth as a
woman of God. You don’t need a Theology degree or lots of gray hair to be a
mentor, just some experiences on the road of life and an attitude of humility
and availability.
Mentees - Do you want to grow? Then this is for you! Do you ever
feel like you’re just trudging along in your Christian life? Missing out
somewhere on that exciting, faith-filled relationship? Do you desire a friend
with whom you can talk frankly about real faith in a real world, about the
challenges of relationships, work and just life? God brings growth most often
when we are willing to step out in faith, purposefully choosing to make our
growth a priority. A mentee needs to be teachable and committed. That’s it.
That’s all there is to it!
Lead-Off
Events
All women
interested in either mentoring or being mentored must attend both the
Orientation and the Kick-Off Coffees.
Orientation
Coffee - This will be a time of exploring various types of mentoring
relationships - and what might best fit your needs at this stage in your life.
We’ll hear stories from women whose lives have been changed by God through
mentoring relationships because a woman was simply willing and available.
Kick-Off Coffee -
This afternoon will be focused on making the most of your mentoring
relationship. Join us as we explore together how to make this ministry
experience all that God desires it to be for experienced mentors, new mentors
and those desiring to be mentored.

Faith Lessons ~ In the Dust
of the Rabbi by Ray Vander Laan
Interactive sessions take
you on a journey to the land and culture in which the disciples learned to
follow Jesus, their Rabbi, so closely that they were covered by the dust kicked
up by his feet. In addition to the DVD and small group discussions, there are 5
in-depth personal studies per session.
Faith Lessons ~ Walk as
Jesus Walked by Ray Vander Laan
Are you passionate about
your walk with Jesus? Why is it often easier to be more excited about hobbies,
sports, homes, and occupations than about our faith? You and your small group
will be inspired and motivated as you learn what discipleship means, who can be
a disciple, how to be a disciple, and what to expect as a
disciple.
